Campbell River in British Columbia / Canada

Campbell River features many of the amenities of a big city without sacrificing its friendly small-town character. Long known for legendary salmon fishing by generations of anglers, Campbell River has grown into a multi-faceted travel destination, bounded by water and mountains, surrounded by wilderness, and blessed with mild weather.

There are many contenders for the title, but Campbell River is still the Salmon Capitol of the World…Tyee, Chinook, Coho, Sockeye, Pink, they all mean one thing…great fishing! Freshwater fishing in the rivers and lakes surrounding Campbell River is often overlooked in the rush to get out and hook a salmon. For those in the know, especially fly fishing fanatics, the amazing steelhead are fantastic fighters.

‘As Wild as you Like’ sums up your vacation activity choices in this area. From easy hikes in the many local nature parks located throughout the city, to full-on mountaineering adventures. Want a salmon’s-eye view of the world? Try something unique to Campbell River…don snorkel and fins and take a guided tour as you swim with the salmon returning up the river to spawn! If scuba diving is on your to-do list, you’ll quickly discover why the area was named "second only to the Red Sea" as a dive spot by the famed Jacques Cousteau Society.

Looking for wildlife? Bears, eagles, whales, and the other great creatures that also inhabit the area can be easily found and viewed safely by taking special tours with guides who know the area.

Mountain biking is big in Campbell River, with lots of trails in the wilderness near town. Take your bike (or rent one) up the ski lift at Mt. Washington and then ride the miles of trails down. Water sports are big, with white-water kayaking and rafting on a number of the rivers in the area, and waterskiing on some of the lakes. Three courses in the area, Storey Creek, Sequoia Springs, and Pacific Playground, can challenge and reward all levels of golfer with a great game.
